Spirits in the Garden will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.\, where you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase a reading from spirit reader/clairvoyant Linda Humphries. You will also have the chance to enter your name in a raffle to win a sip out of President Ulysses Grant’s Mint Julep Cup. \nFor those seeking a deeper dive into history\, the Twilight Tour offers a chilling exploration of Victorian mourning traditions\, burial customs\, and spiritual beliefs surrounding death\, all within the home decorated for mourning. Twilight Tours are led by the Mourning Society of St. Louis.  Check out the Snap Apple in the Carriage House at the end of the tour. \n \n  \nThere are three ticket options for the evening: \nOPTION 1  Entrance Ticket for Spirits in the Garden for $25. \nOPTION 2  Timed ticket for Twilight Tours for $25. Before becoming an award-winning writer\, cookbook author\, food historian/ foodways interpreter\, she began her culinary career as a caterer and culinary instructor teaching international cuisines\, baking\, classic gourmet\, and American cuisines with an emphasis on historic recipes and cooking techniques.  Focusing on research\, interpretation and writing\, Suzanne has established\, created\, and presented foodways programs at local\, regional\, and national historic sites. \n\nAbout the book \nA delectable read\, The Gilded Table is a collection of historic recipes spiced with Victorian dining traditions and fascinating family history.  The 224-page\, hard-cover publication spotlights the food\, culinary traditions and social decorum of 19th century America through the private home and social life of Robert and Virginia Campbell\, who were at the time\, one of St. Louis’ and Missouri’s wealthiest couples. Their luxurious parlor and dining table welcomed the likes of President and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant; William Tecumseh Sherman; and engineer James B. Eads.

The home or renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family\, the Museum contains hundreds of original family possessions including furniture\, paintings\, clothing\, letters and carriages. \nChatillon-DeMenil House: 3352 DeMenil Place\, St. Louis\, MO 63118\nThe Chatillon DeMenil Mansion was built as a farmhouse for Henri Chatillon\, a guide on the Oregon Trail. In 1856\, the house was sold to Nicholas N. DeMenil\, a pharmacist\, who had the house expanded into the Greek Revival style by architect Henry Pitcher in 1863. \nField House Museum: 634 S. Broadway\, St. Louis\, MO 63102\nThe Field House Museum was originally built in a row of 12 houses known as Walsh’s Row\, and it was inhabited by Roswell Field\, a lawyer for Dred Scott\, in 1850. Fremont commanded the Western Department of the US Army from headquarters in St. Louis. A look at the military campaigns of the period is coupled with political intrigue when Fremont’s wife Jessie – daughter of Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton – joins her husband’s fight against the powerful Francis Blair family of Washington and St. louis in order to advance the cause of emancipation. Free\, no reservation required.
