SUMMARY:Tying the Knot - 150 Years of Wedding Fashions
DESCRIPTION:The Tying the Knot exhibit features 20 wedding gowns\, dresses and ensembles that date from the 1870s all the way up to 2020. The exhibit emphasizes the tradition of the bride wearing white\, which was popularized by Queen Victoria at her marriage in February of 1840. and continues to this day. Come explore this unique exhibit and the past 150 years of wedding gown fashion! This exhibit will be on display until April 2024. $10 entry fee includes Museum guided tour.

DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to partner with the St. Louis Zoo for our upcoming garage sale. Both institutions have a gift shop and thus have excess merchandise from years past\, both new and old. Help us make room for new inventory and support two wonderful institutions. You never know what goodies you may find!!  There will be many vintage items also— books\, magazines\, Christmas decor\, stained glass\, lighting and much more. \nYard Sale is Saturday\, March 18 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the St. Louis Zoo Living World Building. Gates open at 9 a.m.  \nAdmission to the St. Louis Zoo is free of charge\, but there is a $15 charge for parking. The home or renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family\, the Museum contains hundreds of original family possessions including furniture\, paintings\, clothing\, letters and carriages. Campbell House is located at 1508 Locust Street in downtown St. Louis. \nChatillon-DeMenil House: 3352 DeMenil Place\, St. Louis\, MO 63118 \nThe Chatillon DeMenil Mansion was built as a farmhouse for Henri Chatillon\, a guide on the Oregon Trail. In 1856\, the house was sold to Nicholas N. DeMenil\, a pharmacist\, who had the house expanded into the Greek Revival style by architect Henry Pitcher in 1863. \nField House Museum: 634 S. Broadway\, St. Louis\, MO 63102 \nThe Field House Museum was originally built in a row of 12 houses known as Walsh’s Row\, and it was inhabited by Roswell Field\, a lawyer for Dred Scott\, in 1850. Saint Louis University was founded in 1818 and ten years later was turned over to the Jesuits who built the first campus downtown on 9th and Washington. Waide will discuss more of the particulars of this “downtown” campus at Ninth and Washington. \nJohn Waide has been an archivist at Saint Louis University for more than 30 years and brings with him a wealth of knowledge on the subject. \nAll lectures are at the Campbell House and are free and open to the public. It will also cover new discoveries and talk about the Campbell letters that are still missing. Campbell descendent Alan McFarland will travel from Ireland for the lecture and set the record straight. \nAlan McFarland is Robert Campbell’s great-nephew and was born just a stone’s throw from the Campbell ancestral home near Plumbridge in County Tyrone.  A retired military officer and politician\, McFarland has made the study of Robert Campbell’s life his hobby and is working on a book about the Fur Trade.  \nAll lectures are at the Campbell House and are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an informal ceremony to mark the kickoff of construction for the Museum’s expansion on Friday\, December 20 at 11 a.m.   Executive Director Andy Hahn will deliver brief remarks about the project.  Archaeologist Joe Harl and general contractor Jeff Clark will both be in attendance to answer questions about the project. \nOne of two cisterns reveals its shape during archaeology.\nCoffee\, hot chocolate and a few treats from the Campbell cookbook will be served in the kitchen following the ceremony.
