We’re having a busy few days here at Robert and Virginia’s house. Not only are we getting the place jazzed up for the upcoming holidays, but we’ve been out and about to promote the Urban Museum Collaborative, a grant project funded by the Missouri Humanities Council. Through the UMC, we have teamed up with The Griot Museum of Black History and Culture and the Eugene Field House & St. Louis Toy Museum to create multidisciplinary educational materials that combine the narratives of all three museums. The curricula is geared towards learners of all ages — young children, teens and adults — so everyone can benefit from the work we’ve done. This program is so special because if your school or senior group can’t make it to the museums, we can bring a bit of it to you. The website (www.urbanmuseumcollaborative.org) is set to be launched by the end of this month, and it contains stories, pictures and activities for all three museums. Each museum also has a traveling trunk so a series of hands-on objects can come to you.
We’ll share more of this exciting project in the next few weeks. This Saturday (10/23/10), Campbell House Executive Director Andy Hahn will be presenting at a roundtable discussion along with Lois Conley of the Griot, Barb Faupel of the Eugene Field House, and Project Director Barbara Decker-Franklin at the Memory Symposium at Fontbonne University.
Of course, if you’re looking for something to do Friday night, we’re hosting our first-ever nighttime tour at CHM tomorrow, October 22nd starting at 7:00. The house will be staffed with our awesome docents and you can take a self-guided tour through the house, gardens and carriage house. (As is de rigueur for us, light refreshments will be served. We like to eat at Campbell House.) This is a terrific opportunity because experiencing the house at night is completely different than being here during the day. $5 admission for the public, free admission for CHM members. Please come out and join us!
